Lets you check to see if a vehicle is listed on the insurance database as insured.

Now call me a cynic, but have saved this as a link on my mobile. In the event of an accident, I'll be checking this before letting the other person leave the scene....

Superb link Jiff - and excellent suggestion of use

Could save some people a lot of hassle... if it comes up with a no, just get the police involved straight away.

Just to let you know that the MID does not update as soon as a policy is incepted , it takes upto 14 days in most cases. Its not the most useful tool ever but its ok if you fancy checking on a vehicle but read the disclaimer :)

"I confirm that the vehicle detailed above is registered, owned or insured by either my employer or myself and is regularly driven by me. I understand it is an offence to wrongfully obtain information of this nature without reasonable cause and if I fail to provide true reasons for acquiring information I may be committing an offence of unlawfully obtaining data contrary to section 55 of the Data Protection Act 1988. I declare that the information provided will not be used for any purposes unrelated to this enquiry. I agree to the terms of use as stated on this web site."

The coppers could turn round and try and throw the book at you for breaching the rules.

Id guess a genuine reason for using it on another car would be in an RTA situation.

Also rules of the internet etc are bound to clause us out for checking the MID in the MID's terms of broadcasting online.

The 14day thing must be company dependant, Bollingtons are very good, within 5 mins of adding to the MID the cars showing on there. also comes off just as fast.

Post office took 3 days to go on and 3 to come off after cancelling insurance.
