Hi all,
Just thought I'd introduce myself and say hello.
I've been out of the MK1 scene for a couple of years now, but as with most good things in life, it's only a question of time before you come back for more.
I've owned 3 mk1's to date...the first was a black german imported LHD T-Bar, which was for want of a better word minty mint! Unfortunately it had to go due to sitting on the wrong side. the second was a 53K G plate coupe in white, and the my last experience was a supercharged variant with the later levin spec engine, fensport pulley, WI and a few other tasty tweaks. It was reputed to have produced 180bhp and was extremely rapid.
My exploits over the last few years have invloved my other 80's automotive passion...the humble Renault 5 GT Turbo. Great cars that go like nothing else for the money.
So I'm back and this time I want power! Or to be more specific 3SGTE power.:D
I've been and looked a few likely candidates today, but unfortunately they were far too rusty for my liking...Are there any decent ones left out there?
So the search continues...ideally I'd like a MK1b in black, but these seem to be as rare as hens teeth.
Anybody know of the existence of such a car...or more to the point know if the owner could be persuaded to sell.
:D
:D
welcome on board mate.. :welcome:
5 turbos are nutty cars..before i bought my first mk1 i was eyeing up a turbo but it fell through and so the mk1 was bought instead..
once the mk1 bites you youve had it..
a non rusty mk1..they exist but theyre mega money..besides, if you gonna do the swap anyway why not refurbish the whole car too..only adds a month onto the build time..?!
you wont be dissapointed with a 3sgte powered mk1..craaazy cars..

hi
welcome to the club-i have a reputation for finding things (hence the ferret) and all i can say is ... there is one on ebay at the moment in black that sam has put a bid on- if you are nice to him:lol: he may let you win it!!!!!! . has only come on recently -within the last few days- so just put a search in automotive for mr2 and go to newly listed and scroll through. hope that helps:lol: but that only works if you are in the uk?

Welcome mate. I was looking for ages for a black one, but they are few and far between. I'm going to have a go at spraying mine myself, at least if I balls it up too much I can pay Mr Woods to do it properly!!

Welcome fella bid away as he wants a grand I think (that may have been another black one I enquired about though) I have only put a £300 bid on it and am sure it will go for well over that as lots of people looking for black ones at the mo!) Also put a cheeky bid on a levin corolla supercharger as rekon they are well smart with celica type susupension and the late spec supercharged engine but 4 seats and a huwge boot (compared to a MK1) ! there was a very tidy black one on there recently that had had the arches done and a respray in original black that was very tidy indeed ! First ever MK1 I went out in wa a black one ad searched for months to find one but never found a decent one and that was 10 years ago when MK1s were still over 3k to buy for reasonable ones let alone tatty ones !
Greetings ohms :welcome: . Enjoy your stay and watch out as this forum is very contageous.:D
You wouldn't happen to be Bryn from Telford would you?
Thanks for the warm and hearty welcome chaps:)
Shugsta, I would indeed be he!
Had a look at the one on ebay, and have a few concerns about the car. The chap sent me loads of pics, prior to his el cheapo respray, and it wasn't good. The arches were completely shot, evidently been repaired previously, and if you look at the pic, the front near side headlight pod is out of alignment and it's wearing a mk1a front bumper...Makes me think it's been front ended at some point.:(
The car I went to see yesterday had a mint interior and was straight and original, but was pretty rotten...the tin worm worries me, especially when it's started to take hold of the main shell itself. The corner of the rear windscreen had completely disappeared and the car was leaking vast amounts of water into the interior. This set alarm bells ringing and made me think, that if it's this bad blatantly in front of my eyes, who knows what level of nasties are to be found once the digging really begins.
I'd have a blue one, but really can't stomach the contrasting interior trim...It's something of an aquired taste me thinks;)
Was thinking about buying the rotten one, stripping it of it's black interior and swapping it out with a decent mica blue coupe's interior. Anybody ever done this, or I am the only nutter who has a real dislike of said trim:D

I'm stripping out the complete (black) interior from mine (and I mean complete, dash and everything), I'm sure we could come to some sort of arrangement!
Cool m8, what are you replacing with?

i will soon be taking the entire blue interior out of my suoercharger to replace with black as hate the blue with a passion !
Just won the rusty won off ebay. Will have a good poke round it when I get it back home, but at ?210 you can't argue.
Mint interior that will do to swap pot the blue if that's the way it pans out...plus plenty of other bits to ebay;)
