I'm hooked since I did elvington in september.... i'm itching to do another track day... and would love to be taken out in a 1.5 at some point. I think it would also be a good opportunity to get out and see what your motors can do!!

Anyone up for this ... If theres a lot of intrest we might be able to get a whole day, otherwise we could just pick a date and all book at the same time? .....

have a peep @ www.bookatrack.com for ideas of prices.... elvington is a good laff and great for a first timers, though tyre wear is a bit harsh!!

Views and feedback appreciated...

great idea...if only most of our cars were finished! its got massive potential in the future when we can get a good turn out,im there in an instant when i have a car!

silverstone or donnington would be the obvious choice as I guess thats centrl between most of us but bit sure how they would stack up price wise, there are 2 tracks in south wales but quite a trek for most apart from the 99% of us already living here (joking as I know its only 85% really) ! If it was orgasnised after JAE there should be more cars finished and ready to go, have to say I would prefer a track thats an old air feil to a proper race track as dont fancy kissing a full on side wall in a newly finished 1.5 and hav seen most types of car go off on track days including brand new evos. At least an airfleld track your likely to just slide off and stop in a field ! Or another idea would be to make a full weekend of it and on the saturday get ours cars mapped on a RR then sunday track day, chippenham I think have Janspeed that may do a RR day for us then follwng day at coombe (again still not sure about them there side walls !) but thats just an idea !

I was thinking it would probably be best to do an airfield day as it would give us a good chance to test out the cars properly. You can goon it wherever you want and get out of shape without fear of hitting anything except a cone.
I suggest elvington as its pretty damn big and lots of fun... The run offs tend to be more runway and a bit grass if you are unlucky. The other handy thing is if you get it wrong... i.e 2 fast into a corner, you can just weave through the cones

After jae sounds like a bit of a plan... though its a long way off :-k

Yep. No problems here. I'm already contemplating Anglesey in June with IMOC... in the 1.5 this time, rather than the Escort, which, as Simon pointed out, is top-speed limited and not really suited to track days! (although future plans for it involve turrets and coilovers, along with a 5 linked rear end and perhaps a couple of diff ratio choices: i'm running 4.6:1 at the moment == 126mph top speed at 7200rpm!) :D

Anyway, yeah... definitely up for a Twobrutal track day... though as mentioned, after JAE would probably be better with more of us finished, and we could always tag along with a mr2mk1club/imoc/toc day.

I'd be up for it.

IMHO Bedford would be the best place as its got lots of run-off, some decent straights and is reasonably central, I guess.

The GT is 4.25 miles long, yes !!

I think I could get us a decent price as well, similar to what Elvington would cost but without the tyre wear.

None of the calendars go that far, but Lotus-on-Track usually have it most BH weekends so if there's one at the end of August I could see if they would be prepared to sell us a batch.

Will be after Xmas before I get any idea.

hmmm cant remeber first name but his surname is williams and I think 4 of them jointly own the car and I think they are investment bankers, he is my mates brother and by all accounts he has a brilliant time on the track as they have paid for a full support package etc so they just turn up get in the car and drive it, get new tyres when needed and any adjustments done for them ! He lives in bedford so would imagine he uses it quite a lot !

i should be abled to make it, if the car isnt ready, i will drive down for social. bedford aerodrome is 350 miles from some of our furthest active members, shugsta & david, is there any a bit more centrally located?.. i couldt imagine driving 350 mile twice in a day! :icon_eek:
the latest day in track calendar possible would be best for all.

I'm hoping to get to Elvington on 1st April - no pressure, Paul ;)

I'm also hoping to try Bedford out on Good Friday, but we'll see how it goes.

The next day I can get a block booking for at Bedford is the Bank Holiday Monday on 28th August. I'd need to confirm but I think it'd be ?150 per car. The annoying thing about Bedford is that they charge for passengers and even spectators as they are only allowed a maximum of 200 people in the pit lane.

Whereas Elvington is much more sociable. As well as Bookatrack, Javelin also do days at Elvington.

Up for it.

Don't worry about us Scottish folk. We can travel assuming our cars are on the road then.

Just been to the pub and i would agree to anything!!!

Trouble is I would be worried I would stuff the engine on the track and not get home. Just get the GF to drive the Scooby as technical support vehicle!!!

I'm a bit broke at the mo :violin: so probably won't be able to manage anything till after jae time when i'm hopefully employed

If it was after jae we'd get a better turnout though right?

Paul Woods

id be turning up in a stock mk1 if attending, not sure yet...after JAE will see a better turnout i think but im up for attending a trackday beforehand, word of warning though ,elvington kills tyres in a single day,we took a mk1 with good tyres down to the wires after 30-40 laps.

Suggestion for Elvington - I took the Escort and was powersliding and wheeslpinning all day without much wear on the tyres... how? very, very cheap tyres and remoulds!
You don't need expensive or sticky tyres, so just get the cheapest you can find - they're usually hard as rock and will last all day :D

Seen as I work in Bedford, and will probably move there before JAE, i'm def up for coming along...

add me to the list!!

Paid ?100 for a set of wheels with brand new toyos all round for elvington, had toasted one of the rears down to the threads, and the front was not far off. They were trashed, melted and destroyed by the end of the day, and I was running around 40 psi in them!! One of the other guys turned up there with a set of nakangs with bout 2 mm of tred on them and he still had about 2 mm by the end of the day!!!

Budgets all the way :afro:, the ones I took to anglesey cost me ?20 for 4 (second hand with wheels) and haven't really worn at all, though they are slightly melted around the edges

Budget tyres are great for hooning and for abrasive airfields, but if you want to get some decent lap times then they are no good.

I've got a set of Toyo R888s on order for when I do decent tracks in mine. 195/50/15 for ?49 each.

Bargain!! Where did you get those from? I might be intrested in a set when my tyres pack in? :boogie:

I've already booked for Elvington on 6th of May, but plan on using my old 14" wheels and finally destroying the pair of Pirelli 600s that came with them:mrgreen: , rather than ruining the recent ( but cheap ) tyres on the 15" wheels I ran at Anglesey.

Like Goldy, I don't think I had any noticeable tyre wear at all at Anglesey.

I'll be on 15" Mk3 wheels, agree'd though Elvington destroys tyres.

Prob take a "Tow" car too when my pipes let go one by one!

Pile of crap.
