View Full Version : hello!
I am undergoing an engine transplant at the moment the 3sgte g reg from mr2 into an ae92 corolla originally 4age also g reg. I took both engines out myself and am having help putting the 3sgte in. The engine is in at present but as expected several problems:
a. WIRING (hate this stuff)
b. Gear linkage; got to feed it from the bulkhead around to the front of the gearbox (exhaust manifold almost touching front panel)
c. Driveshafts :-k
Very tricky project without further help.
Fortunately the other day podge came in to my work needing a respray for his mk1 mr2 with 3sgte and ! bingo ! introduced me to you!

welcome to TB kelly,if its 3s-gte wiring you need help with just ask, easy peasy...gearbox,you using the mr2 turbo unit? that why the linkages are on the wrong side? Im not 100% here but i think it may be possible to use the GT4 box (linkages on the correct side for you) with the transfer box removed....or at least a combo of mk2 turbo and gt4 casings/internals should give you a working box with the linkages on the right side.
Your driveshaft set up will be identical to ours, same hub splines from what i gather,so using the mk2 turbo shafts with st185 outer cv joints (www.partsinabox.co.uk (http://www.partsinabox.co.uk) number OJ-0220/30) should work.
Anyway enough tech talk! welcome to TB.
Do people in S.wales have tellys???? seems they have F all better to do than build turbos! :D

Nope, you deffo need to use the MR2 turbo box, the GT4 one doesn't work without the transfer case attached.
Could do the same as people who transplant the black top and silver top 4AGEs into the AW11 though - since the casing is the same, you can drill it out to fit the gear selector mechanism on the opposite side like the GT4.
Or just give Adrian a bell at Fensport, he's done a few of these conversions and can tell you all the answers.

ah i see dan so its a total no go? ah well!
Yep adrian at fensport has a 600bhp rolla so im sure he knows what to do tranny wise!
Thanks u lot its a great help knowing there are others out there that have more imagination than those who keep standard cars! good to have a challange isn't it?
I'll certainly get some gt4 outer cv's this week.
Do you know if the 4agze box will fit on the 3sgte or is that a long shot in the dark?

Howdy, and hold your horses on the cv's just a sec... You said an agze box, not an ag one? If you happen to have the CV's from the shafts from that setup then you may already have what you need. I know you can use the SW20 3sgte box + shaft with the AW11 4AGZE CV combo on the MR2 so you may be in luck. Can anyone with more knoledge than me jump in at this point please?
Cheers,
Owen.

The 4AGZE box does not fit on the 3S engine unfortunately :(
As Owen says though, if you'v got the supercharger shafts, then the outer CV of these will work instead of the ST185 outer CVs.
hi kelly the gze box would still give you the same probs with the linkage but do get the outer cv`s and the turbo d/shfts these will match up your tubby gearbox
bloody hell, more SouthWales, we are slowly taking over the world.
Welcome Kelly. Sounds like a good project.
Roughly How much would a respray cost from you anyway as I'm gonna need mine done sometime

Good question and is your place just a spray shop or do you do bodywork repairs (like rusty B posts).
Welcome to the asylum Kelly, group therapy begins shortly and medication is freely available:ha:

Oy, Sassy. Feel free to join in your own thread any time... :nerd: :D
Owen.
Resprays start from as little as ?500 obviously the price goes up with dents/rust welding modifications special effects and depends on if the cars allready stripped.
We do all tybes of car body repair from write offs to body kits.
Rusty b posts can be rust treated to hold the rust back. But to get rid of it all together the rusted area should be removed and replaced with new metal, then painted.
Thanks for that Sassy, will be gettin your location off Podge and will probably see you in the New Year (depending on my binman Crimbo tips). Sorry Paul but Llantrisant is a lot nearer than Durham and you aint got time to spit.

ha just noticed you live near my nan sassy!
Sassy you may end up having quite a bit of work done between all of us. I know the 3 of us in Caerleon need bits done. I'll have to pop by and get a quote for all the rust sorted and a holographic metalflake dragon up each side. Not sure if I want to do the dragon bit yet but it could be cool
