I see profanity is a no-no on this forum, so writing a post about insurance companies is going to be very difficult for me. But I'll try.

I just got a quote for the aw11 with the conversion complete, from my current insurers. I am 29 with 6 years NCB, living in Manchester, never had any accidents or points of any sort. They want a GRAND, the same as the declared value of the car!

This is astonishingly almost as much as my GT4: the GT4 is imported, 15 mods declared, value 8 times as much.

Are there any classic or other swap-friendly places to try?

I'd be interested to hear about this. I've yet to ask good ol' adrian flux what the damage would be... I wonder whether they weight the premium for the increase in power, or simply try and look at it as a mk2 mr2 turbo.

Out of interest what was the "before" quote.

I have been meaning to post a similar question so well done Dan.
My Mk1 before mods was about ?200/year, 5000miles with Chaucer.
That includes travel to work and my wife covered to drive (like she gets the chance). This is through a scheme for members of Mk1 owners club and remember, as Paul says I am an old codger!
I have given them details of my V6 swap......You're doing what? ..... and they are suggesting ?400approx.
I have heard that registering your car as a special and going thru SVA (single vehicle approval) it is possible to get much better quotes.
I am sure other two brutal folks will know more and will soon join in. :?:

I decided that it was better to not even think about the insurance costs until I am ready to put it on the road. Right now I would rather not know :!:

I'm not sure why, but I have never been able to get decent quotes (well, I suppose it could be living in Manc!).

I will look around further definitely, it was GSi who that quote was from - I hate renewals, I rang about 30 places last year :(

JB - do you mean get it on a Q plate or similar?

JB

Yes, but I think if most of your vehicle is original you can still get it on the correct year plate rather than Q.
Paul help!! I am sure you know about this or is it on the Autodata disc? :)
If nobody replies I'll see if I can find out

The general feeling with regard to 'Adrian Flux' insurance with kit car builders that I know of is to stay well away. I have heard a few horror stories when people have tried to make a claim.

Moving to Manchester did my insurance no good. :( whats mad is i came from a not so amazing Yorkshire town to ok areas in Manchester. looking through quotes from hastings who are ok for getting general quote ideas, they were asking for more than ?600 standard MK1 and all clean 29 Y/O :(
Further research next year, limited miles with roadsure is working out ok for now. :)

HOW MUCH................

I'm 26 and only paying a little over ?300 and its not a great deal more once I finally get the conversion done.

Right note to self. NEVER move to Manchester

I'm with footman james, its ?380 a year for my 1.5 with plenty mods! 26 year old with no points/claims and 2 years NCB.
My import GT4 is ?450 fully comp, i cant understand why the 1.5 is cheaper but i'm NOT arguing!!
