Just phoned up, first quote I've got and it comes to a grand total of ?512.65
And to top it all off my tubby should be arriving tonight for me to start stripping down.
Right off to try and get this quote even cheaper now. Anyone got any good companies to try.

what about dump valve, unichip (gotta get me one of them) NOS for antilag ! uprated CT20b to name but a few !
well I'll work the rest out after, gotta get the engine in first then I'll make it quicker still. noone seems to be able to beat the first quote.

whats ur no claims, points etc?
I'm 25, 4 Years no claims, 1 accident in Nov 2002, and no points (which I think helps a bit).
I just worked out I can get insurance on both a fireblade and a mk1.5 for less than the muppet sitting across the desk from me is getting insured on his 1.3 Fiesta. :-)

Paff have you tried carol nash as they insure them on the same policy but not sure about a modified car on that policy !
Nope not yet, ran out of time for lunch, will give them a shout if I get a chance tomorrow. Forgot they did the dual policy.
Cheers for reminding me

no worries, had 5 bikes on there and my celica with mods declaired ! the secret of bike insurance Paff is to get a classic (older than 82 plate) as they then insure upt another 4 sports bikes for not much ! I had 5 bikes on the policy wioth a vlaue of about 15k between them and they were all insured fully comp with no milage restrictions, at the time didnt have any no claims bonus and 3 points and they covered me for £700 al in, a bragain me hinks as the 750s were £800 each on thier own ! The celica with most mods declared and import was about £650 again fully comp with alloy cover as well (wheels are £1200 to replace apparantly) ! some people have had much joy with them others have had no luck at all so depends what your trying to insure I guess !
OK guys. Just got my 1st quote from Classic Car Insurance (CCI). I spoke to a chap called Steve on 0121 941 5255 and he quoted me £395 for comprehensive cover restricted to 3k miles p.a. incl cover for 4 trackdays. The excess is £350, but if I increase the excess to £500 the premium comes down to £340.
I'm 35 and have no NCB to use on the policy. I also have 3 points on my licence and another 5 that have come off but still needed to declare.
Sounds like a bit of a bargain to me.

god these prices are really good for you lot, gutted now that i've got that drinkdriving on my record
Here comes another.
Obviously same as above regarding my details, but with a £300 x/s, Norton Insurance (0121 246 5050) have quoted me £299.90 for 1500 miles and £398.60 for 3000 miles. Doesn't include trackday cover though.

sooty thats a reet bargian there fella especially to cover track days as well ! did you just decalera it as a 2l tubby engine or did you discuss other mods such as brakes and wheels and a filter etc ? What mods do you really have to declare and I know its anything that is not origianl equipment but surely if you replace springs and shocks with uprated items thats not an issue as long as they are not lowered as surely that must be to roiginal spec etc etc ? any views ?

Makes my (soon to be) tuned 1.6 mk1 seem expensive. I'm 26 with 1 yr NCB, no accidents, no points and driving company/parents cars daily since I passed my test at 17. With alloys, exhaust, cams and ITBs I'll be paying £800 fully comp

I told them about the engine. They asked what power and I quoted the book figure of 221PS. I also told them it was having a custom made exhaust.
I didn't tell them that it had different wheels, brakes or suspension, but then it hasn't atm.
I may have to try those guys then although I can't see me geting it much cheaper than I have found it so far. Doesn't cost anything to try I spose (especially if you use your works phone :-) )

chris thats nowt i paid £1600 for TPFT on my spanking new RGV250 when I was 17 which was great but bike cost me £3800 so then i had no money for ruddy fully synthetic fuel oil so my dad took pity on me and gave me his crapped out old citreon visa (all 648cc of it) in biege to use and went and bought himself a skoda ! LOL oh the shame of it all !
that is nasty my history is
17) Yamaha TZR 125 ?450 tpft (bike cost ?600)
18) Same bike ?150 tpft
21) Yamaha R6 ?700 tpft (bike cost ?2500)
22) Ducati 748 ?550 tpft (bike cost (6000)
23) Mk 2 mr2 ?750 (cost me ?2500)

chris cant believe u like ubber cool bikes yet you own a MK2 NA of all cars ! would have hoped for a MK1 SC at least !
The car is great for the money!!!! No car i can afford will be as much fun or as fast as a bike! I love the fact that its not the usual hatch crap that you see everywhere! Dont laugh but it was between the two or a ford puma!!!!
As far as bikes go i love most things Italian. My poor duke was actually written off in April and i am now torn between building it up into a super duke with lots of bling or getting another one. The Triumph is so nice though. I am going to test ride it and see. I have also been looking at MV's but dont tell the other half lol:D

Well this sucks
I called Carole Nash they wont cover a MK1.5 apparently
The green light dudes were shut
The other one I can't remember the name of quoted me ?3200
Might just have to stick with Adrian flux then by the looks of things!!
robert, did you try graham sykes. they have been the best quotes for me by far
do not use adrian flux..they are merchants imho..customer service for me was shite and the quotes were loony..
i went with (ooer) footmanjames (http://www.footmanjames.co.uk/site/default.asp) for my insurance..
i declared all the mods, inlcuding the estimated BHP300..fully comp came out cheaper than i was paying for the mk1..before the swap..?250..!!!
i was 32 at the time, FNCB, no points blah blah...restricted mileage though to 4000mpy..
can recommend them highly..

Just tried them they won't insure me apparently I'm to young and good looking!!
ah well such are the hardships of my youth lol
Strangely enough I just tried them as well and they told me they can't even try to beat the quote I've got from GS. Oh well looks like I know where my money is going.
Its all getting wierder as well. My old man would like to help with the swap and my old dear didn't have a go when I mentioned the plans. I expected her to say "its just a car, it gets you from A-B" and "why are you wasting your money" but she didn't say a word and I got to drink my Jacks in peace :-)

?697 from these guys <:(
I got done by the insurers... 120bhp mk2 n/a with no mods declared, third party fire and theft.... 21 yr old.... ?1200!! that was the cheapest by a mile, (with elepant)
It came down to around ?750 for being 22 with 1 yrs ncb.... thats insured at home, not at my scummy student address in manchester.
I had a fully clean licence with an accident over 3 years ago (no claim made)
Insurers take the piss just a little.... Dunno how i'm going to insure it with a supercharger installed!!!
Gonna get some quotes for mine soon, had a quote last year (before swap but with intent to do so) for ?550 and I had paid ?650, seem to me that you get cheaper insurance for a modified car than a standard one, maybe it's coz they wont fix it if it gets broken - but thats the bit they tell you later - or in the small print at the botom of the policy that you need an electron microscope to read, hehe.

Peebs some insurers actually see you as less of a risk in a modded motor as they think you will take more care of it than a standard one, stupid I know but dems da brakes !
Just been having a ring around for some 'surance and I have been asked a couple of times if I am a member of a car group or club toyota or otherwise. One company said it would cost me about ?120 less if I was.
Soooooo...would quoting being a member of TB make a difference do you think ?
Or would I need to join another one ?
Please don't tell me I gotta join IMOCK, hehe (opps sos Si)
"say it is'nt so, Ethel"
Well - currently, with Rev 3 n/a with turbo conversion, unichip, mongoose exhaust, apexi induction, walbro pump, helix clutch, uprated IC, around 275bhp (or was before my current "problems"), all declared.....?750 fully comp with adrian flux.
Thats with full no claims, 1 additional driver, no claims protection, +3 points currently. I'm over 25... :P
Considering if a V6 is fitted it won't have unichip, IC, and (initially ;) ) not as much power, I'm assuming that it will be cheaper......?
:jump: ;)
Paul Woods
16-06-2006, 06:45
indeed, phil payed ?50 more than a stock mk2na would cost for having the v6 in it...so given the mods you currently have then fitting a v6 should work out a lot cheaper i would have thought.
Hmm...is Phils mk2 an inport or UK spec car ? Mine is import converted to UK spec, but still it whacks a huge ?200-?300 quid on the price.
Do you happen to know which company Phil got insured by ?
Paul Woods
16-06-2006, 17:30
i dont mate but im sure he will be along shortly.
(peebs off topic but my mate is building a v6 mk2 in the next fortnight and coming to JAE so we will have all four UK mk2 v6's on the same stand  )

just so I can go and get some insurance quotes, what exactly do you tell the insurance company, yeah the car has an engie transplant???
Cool, I'm with Graham Sykes too, but a bit confused about your swap after reading this post.
Your Swap info (next to avatar and username tag) says "3VZ-FE Collecting parts", yet you are saying it's a tubby lump now - or do you have two projects ?

Its just at first I was confused and kept changing my mind, now I'm dead set on going V6 Lodge made sure of that :).
Gonna be trying to get a discount for TB Big members if I can, hopefully will have time to sort it this weekend. Rest assured you will all know as soon as I've managed it.
