Allo all, I remember seeing this forum a while ago but forgot to join up, so here I am now. Im from 'oop north (near Leeds), and drive an '87 MK1B. Its my first car, and Im actually learning to drive in it. In fact, yesterday was the first time Id had chance to activate my beloved T-VIS.:lol2:

Here are some pics of her:

She still needs some TLC before I carry out any major work (3S-GTE swap :D), although my next plan does include re-spraying certain parts of the car in the same blue, and some Rota GT3s in black/polished lip as soon as money allows. Hopefully Ill learn something while Im here, and itd be good to meet some of you. The names Graham.O:)

Hello and welcome mate... car looks lovely... making me jealous. As Nik said i'd get used to driving it with the 1.6 in first, go on an airfield track day (I can't recomend it enough) it really helps you learn what your car does on the limit and what signs it gives you before it lets go :righton:

Nice motor for a first car! Certainly beats my shitroen AX

Hi again. Thanks for all the welcomes. :)

Lol, dont worry, the 1.5 transition wont be for a while yet. In a year or so Ill be looking into buying another car (the list is long at the moment), so the MR2 will be a weekend car, and thats probably when Ill look into doing it. Just thought id join up and learn everything I could before then.

where does the name touge come from as seen it about a bit recently

The word 'touge' means 'mountain pass' in Japanese, its where most of what we know as drifting came from, but a lot of the touge runners prefer to stick to the road, and Ive seen a fair few using MK1s. If you've seen it around a bit, Im on the MR2OC and the TOC.

what colour is that..looks kinda scooby blueish

Not entirely sure, it was originally white judging by under-bonnet colour. However, from looking around on the web, Ive seen a few Aus/NZ MK1s in the same blue, and a fair few US cars, which has left me wondering whether or not it was simply an option the UK didnt receive. To my knowledge though, I dont know of another in the UK which is the same colour, which is a shame. Ive looked round, largely just to fnd out which colour it is, but alas, no luck so far.

Lol, cheeky bugger. :D

go on an airfield track day (I can't recomend it enough) it really helps you learn what your car does on the limit and what signs it gives you before it lets go

Im looking forward to attending some track days this year, and we're currently in the process of booking a road-trip to the 'Ring in Germany. Cant see me putting in any astonishing times, but Ill be going mainly for the road-trip there, and just to sample the legend. :D

Anyway, thanks again for all the kindness. My other half spotted the pink MK1 in another thread, she keeps threatening to take mine by cover of night and respray it now!

Hi mate, how's it going? Fantastic paint job!!!

While i'm here I thought I'd enhance the already heavily made point of giving yourself a chance before jumping in at the deep end driving wise...

We're not saying this bcos we think we know better, or we're older, yaddy da - it's bcos going from 0-60 in 5 seconds is more than enough to earn yourself a national paper headline for all the wrong reasons...

I would recommend any new driver to give themselves a good few years just to learn the correct reactions - you can be an awesome driver - but at the end of the day only experience will teach your brain, and muscles memories, how to react to different 'complexities'... in some situations you won't have time to think what to do - you either do it... or not - and that's when experience kicks in!

But anyway, i've said enough for one evening!! I'm sounding far older than my years possibly cater for...

My first car was a G reg, Gold with Brown interior Corolla (pictures on request, but unadvisable) :(

at least it was a Toyota I guess...!!

Oh dont worry about it mate, Im not your average ignorant teenager, Im always willing to take advice where its given, and Im grateful for it. Besides, as it stands, Ive got no-where near enough money for anything that extravagant.:icon_smil

Thanks again for the welcomes. Sorry if Ive been a bit absent, only just got my PC back after the raping it received from 587 spyware files. Id like to thank Norton Anti-virus for the waste of ?30, as it did absoluely nothing to stop them.:laugh2:
