hi
new to the club and as yet have not had the bug to replace the engine yet, bought a 87 mk1 acouple of months ago ?300 ebay bargain.
mot failure :( usual things rust and brakes- head gasket.thanks to paul for his email surgery now back up and running :P . having read the posts for the last few months the site seems to be for nutters and nuclear physicists - i seem to come somewhere in the middle not quite nutty and definately not a nuclear wotsit- i can cook though  so far my achievements are confined to a filter and a exhaust system of my own making- inspired by you lot!! not yet computer literate to post pictures yet - i was brought up in the pre calculator era with ink wells and free milk. but exhaust looks good downpipe but shortened, flexi pipe into a 2" to 2.5" stepped piece into a stainless 15"box with 4"exit in the centre of car. noisy but sounds like a motorbike :D so if youre in surrey and hear a noisy white mk1 give us a wave- you never know i might wave back!
just a question have fitted three spoke 14" wheels from a corsa they have a tapered seat on the stud hole so have changed nuts but on the motorway seem to have a nasty vibration over a 100mph( illegal i know) wheels have been balanced so is it the spigot rings that you all talk about or is it something else?

hello sir, welcome to the mk1 dark side! yes its more than likely to be spigot rings or lack of them but having said that it could be anything....did it have this problem pre 3 spoke? or just since fitting them? you could have a mishapen tyre? try swapping front and rear wheels over and see if the situation improves, also get the tracking checked.

Sooner or later we will convince you to ditch the 4a-ge and go for something a bit more mental!

Welcome all the same, all the help you need is right here.

Hey welcome. Not computer literate and remember ink wells and free milk
You must be as old as me :D There's not many of us old bold nutters left.
Once you realise your Mk1 also needs viagra you'll be looking for a 2.0 turbo or 3.0 V6 to whack in the back  Enjoy
