u need less than 8 points out of the following to be able to register as a kit conversion(ie if using oe suspension the 2 points, oe steering assembly 2 points):
chassis or body shell (body and chassis as one unit – monocoque ie direct replacement from the manufacturer) (original or new) = 5 points
suspension = 2 points
axles = 2 points
transmission = 2 points
steering assembly = 2 points
engine = 1 point
If i've read it right then either suspension or steering assembly is what you will be stuck on for the sva. them 2 along with the chassis is 9 points alone. I'm not sure if changing springs and shocks would be enough to be classed as not original equipment, they might want non-original struts aswell iygwim

Just a thought but if your suspension is all shiney and new, do we really think an inspector is going to know the difference between an AW11 front strut and a SW20 strut? It'd be interesting to see what they define axles as; Do driveshafts count as axles?

yep i think axles = driveshafts

Hmmmm more reading (probably going Waaaaaaaaaay off topic!)
In order to retain the original registration mark:
* cars and car-derived vans must use:
The original unmodified chassis or unaltered bodyshell (i.e. body and chassis as one unit - monocoque); or a new chassis or monocoque bodyshell of the same specification as the original supported by evidence from the dealer or manufacturer (e.g. receipt).
And two other major components from the original vehicle ? ie suspension (front & back); steering assembly; axles (both); transmission or engine.
So; we have to also score more than 8 points to retain our registration number:
Body = 5 points
suspension = 2 points
steering assembly = 2 points
Well there's 9 points straight away. Can't really see an issue?

but if you retain the original mark then you're not classed as a kit car/conversion and therefore do not need an SVA.
The whole point of it is to get the car registered as a kit car so that insurance is peanuts!

but you then get a q plate (vehicle of Questionable origins!)
I figured if you pass an SVA test, the vehicle is classed as radically altered vehicle;
take a typical kit car based on a donor of a sierra:
one new monocoque = 5 points
steering assembly = 2 points
axles = 2 points
engine = 1 point
transmission = 2 points
So the car passes the requisites to retain the registration number of the donor, but is still classed as a radically altered vehicle.

yes ur right jiff, i misread part of it. so you need over 8 points and then it will have an age related registration number. i dont understand whats needed for this sva thing now though!
