Sorry, this has been brewing for a while. He's a "specialist" in barnsley, but from all of my experiences of his work its a bit lacking.
I have been to him a few times now
I had my cambelt done by him which involved complete removal of my alternator as it was siezed to the bracket. The work was done.
The day I got the car back, I had knocking from the rear, I wen't straight back and he found that he'd left a bolt loose on one of my droplinks.
Over the next few months I had mysterious rear knocking under heavy cornering. I changed my rear droplinks, and checked the suspension. The culprit turned out to be a rear subframe bolt that had been left finger tight on the side he had dropped the subframe. Knocking was cured.
I replaced my battery due to it failing. The new battery failed a month later. Turned out that my alternator was only putting out 12.5 volts. Took the car back to him, and it was checked out by his guy who re-conditions alternators. Turns out that the main terminal had not been attached properly, was loose and that the alternator had been arcing accross it. It was suggested that this may have damaged the alternator regulator, but it seemed to work ok.
2 weeks later the alternator failed
The car was taken back to him and left for a week to repair the alternator, replace my disks (under his reccomendation that it would fail the MOT (which it didn't!) and carry out an oil change.
The alternator was changed and so was the oil, however it was left till last minute, inconvieniencing me by leaving me to collect it on monday evening as opposed to afternoon. He did not replace the brake disks
2 weeks later I noticed an oil leak, my oil cap had been left loose. Oil has leaked allover my engine, ruining the paint on my cam cover. I lost 3.5 litres of oil, and have run the car up and down the motorway. I cannot tell what damage may have been done! I now require another oil change due to the state of the oil after being run on so little.
Pete is a genuinely nice chap, and always willing offer advice, however the quality of his work leaves a lot to be desired. I travelled for over an hour for his "expertise" and the quality of care that you'd expect from a specialist. He seems to have taken on more work than he can manage, and the quality has definately dropped. I appreciate people make mistakes, especially garages, but I'd not expect an mr2 specialist to do something as stupid as leave an oil cap loose, or forget to tighten up subframe bolts.
