Great site. Have 1986 aw11 with mongoose K&n, apex susp. have had it since 1991 am second owner from 48000miles to 110000(now). have thrashed every mile, burn through 2 mild steel janspeeds in the process. Will post a piccy soon as i have just completed a full rspray in my 16by9 garage using an earlex 3000 HVLP spray station DON'T LAUGH, you'd be suprised at the result! Still compounding with the farecla g3 and 1200 grade as no one told me to thin the paint by 60% (i thinned by 40%). Also have some intersting pictures of my blown head gasket fix, in short I filled the head and block pitting with JB Weld after going for broke with a dremel and stone grinding tip. . Have covered 2500 miles since and I guess its fixed? Thanks to Blue hylomar as well.... would love to do a 1.5 but insurance!

regards from the west country....

im lovin the plumley spoiler, that looks so much better than stock y'know.....nice to see a mk1 die hard ,1991! thats some ownership, but time to take it to the next level my friend! somewhere theres a 3s-gte or V6 begging to go in that car of yours.

Let me guess, the head gasket went around number 4 cylinder near the front water jacket?

Welcome to TB ,its infectious so be warned and if you start to develop a grinder fettish dont worry, this is normal and will pass

just finished the wheels last weekend, they are the originals i painted them satin then dremel'd the edges back to aluminium where i next intend to polish and laquer. They look bigger than 14" that way and since the car is lowered there is little gap between the arches. Tried the other day to get those mk3 wheels on ebay but craftier than me, some other guys stepped in in the last 10 seconds!!

South bristol, although I drive a rav4 monday to friday and the mr2 is me weekender when I get it back from the missus who rants it monday to friday.

Head gasket went on number 4 edge towards front of car, found out on web that Saab head pitting is solved by JB Weld as a dealer fix. It has held up so far, I can hammer down motorway nice and cool, no heat build up on the slip roads, job done.

I was thinking of putting in a coolant expansion tank so there is an air cushion instead of a pressure release cap system has any one done this? When I knew it was on the way out I used a gilera runner expansion bottle with 1 bar cap attached to overflow pipe, with a rad cap with the spring removed, it worked okay until the gasket gave in big time.

At the moment I am also fabricating an oil catch can out of a stainless steel pepper pot to go between the breather pipe (Cost ?1.99 plus JB Weld).

Are the last generation normally aspired (184?bhp) engines an easy instal, I got the money and the tools.....

regards

if your thinking about the 20v conversion i personaly would`nt bother as you can put a 3sgte engine in quite simply and get more bang for your buck

even then the 20vs are only around 160bhp...184bhp,do you mean the 2zz celica 1.8 vvti lump? thats around 190bhp if memory serves....i think that would make a belting swap, six speed box from the mk3 will bolt straight to it as well....lovely!

the 2.0 litre mk2 last engine (Square brake lights model)?

Got a friend with that model... I might back me tractor into it by accident then pick up the engine cheap!

Paul Woods

the mk2na 3s-ge engine is only 158bhp,theres exactly the same effort needed to fit the 3s-ge as there is the 3s-gte but the latter has 100bhp more!....the 3s-ge is heavier than the 4a-ge so the extra 30bhp would only be lugging around the extra engine weight, not really worth doing bud.

Point taken.... I could call it MR2zz

Paul Woods

Mr2zz indeed! go for it! 5 posts into the site and an engine conversion might already be on the cards....thats the effect this place has :D

I sit in a trance recalling engines from various cars and imagine them being fitted.. I remember a ford mustang 5litre v8 a friend had , or a prosche 928s4 engine...

only a matter of time before we see MR2viper.....

Paul Woods

now an mr2viper...i like the sound of that, you might just be the man to build it.

listen to podge and pop over the bridge to see his if your in doubt and then listen to it as its worth it for that sound alone ! 20vavle conversion is ok if you want to live on the redline ALL the time as you really have to rev them hard to get the power out of it !
