Hi folks,

I think this has been discussed before, but hidden in another thread.

Does the base car affect premiums for the V6 conversion? i.e. would a tubby V6 cost more to insure than a UK n/a or an imported n/a?

If so what sort of difference? 10%?

I know the chances of someone knowing for certain are slim but any ideas welcome. I'm trying to keep running costs down to minimum.

Thanks Luke

Hello mate,

It would appear if the company does accept an engine conversion on their 'list of mods' then those tend to offer a lower annual price than a tubby or the same, and for na's it seems to be around £100ish more.

As your aware all companies are different so if your paying more for an imported na than a uk spec one you might find the difference mininal compared with a company that lists uk and import na's the same.

I spoke to A-plan and the guy said as there is no V6 SW20 they run an annual quote based on your current car and then an annual for a Camry V6, the rest is based on their discretion. ;)

Just remember with A-Plan you might get Ensign as your company which means in a total loss you cannot buy your car back, in which case sort out an agreed value.

I got mistakenly quoted on a turbo base car, when he ran the NA car through it came out at about £60 less.

This is the problem with insurance its soo different for everyones circumstances the prices go out the window when mods come into it.

I got quoted an extra £100 from a na to V6. An annual on a na to a stock tubby with the same place was an extra £500, but for someone else a tubby to a V6 was the same price, but others had it for a little less!

Just call around people, but remember a V6 Mr2 is not a production car!

Mine never changed when going from Rev 3 turbo to V6 S/C as power levels were expected to be on a par.

Dreading to think what it'll be soon!
