View Full Version : few quotes I obtained today
Ok in preperation for the swap I've decided to get a few quotes and see where the good deals are gonna be.
This is the spec I'm giving them at the mo (thought I'd be as specific for it as I could). And ok I don't have all of it yet but will get there by the time I actually need the insurance.
3.0 V6 Engine upgrade (3VZFE from a Toyota Camry)
MR2 Turbo Gearbox
Air Filter
Custom Exhaust System
Upgraded Suspension
Upgraded Brakes (Celica GT4 ST205 front Calipers, mr2 turbo rear Calipers)
17" Dezent Alloy Wheels
Sports Steering Wheel
Non-standard seats and Harnesses
Upgraded Stereo System
Lamborgini Style Door hinges.
These are some of the results so far......
Graham Sykes - £747
Greenlight - £467
Adrian Flux - £599
And the best one that almost made me fall on the floor laughing……….
Mceinsurance - £2111
Hmm might not go with them then.
A little update due to the suggestion from monkey max.
I'm 26, 6 years no claims, no points and 1 accident that will be gone off the record in November (well for those companies that want to ask 5 years, most only want 3)
I'm going to be ringing round some places soon. It'd be great for people to add to this list. Who you went with and who gave you a silly quote.
Might save alot of time on the phone.

Yeah, but bear in mind that silly quotes could be excellent quotes for others - they have some funny ranking software!!
Yep, u'd be amazed the difference in price 3 pts, a postcode or even 1000miles will make to your policy.

When our postcode changed a few years back, only from NP2 to NP12. We didn't move house just the P.O. changed the postcode. My wife informed her insurance company of the change of address, the premium was £20 less. The car was still parked in exactly the same place but was less of a risk.rotflmao
It's all about how many claims have gone through the company for that postcode.
So you get a new postcode and it should go down. It's crazy but that's how it works.

Exactly - totally bizarre, but could work in your favour ;)

I have just renewed mine with Footman James for £384 limited to 3000 miles, all mods declared, it probably would have been cheaper if I'd not modified the engine during the swap. The excess is 200 and have European breakdown cover thrown in. It cost less and considering the other factors, was quite alot better than anyone else. Took it for a drive today, second time in six weeks and it felt gooood.
Edit -
30yr Male. 1 SP30, 8yrs NCB but not required for classic policy
3sgte - All mods declared - 300hp provisional
£5k agreed value, photos required
Garaged. Usage SDP+C
Occupation - Chartered Engineer
It would have been £490 with 4500 miles.
Hope this helps

Yeah, postcode does funny things; I was going to move my Mk1 from parents to where I am.... everything the same... driveway to driveway... my parents live just outside a town not too far from a dodgy area (though their area isn't bad). I now live in the sticks in a small village where it's so safe that when our front door lock was a bit dodgy, it didn't worry us.
Yet my premium would've increased by £50 odd quid... Obviously I kept it as it was... (the Mk1 lives in the parents garage normally anyway)
Anyway, any chance you guys could also include age and NCB when giving the quotes; just so that it's easier to compare to our statuses...?
updated mine for ya mate :)
try sky mate. I've just had a quote from them.
Declared ALL mods. Every single last thing. Including the engine build and predicited BHP.
£641/year for me.
Couple there that doesn`t cost too much. Keep looking though cause one even cheaper might come along;)
BTW, lambo hinges? are you making them yourself or where did you get them?
nah didn't make them myself but bought them off Rowan when he took them off his car. Might be working on getting them copied sometime tho if I can altho they need altering slightly so the mount perfec'
