Hello

Thought I'd better introduce myself seeing as I'm spending most evenings reading in the forum. I'm Gareth and I'm doing Sooty's 3sgte swap in by backyard. Met JB and Dan a couple of weeks back (lookin proper swish Jonathan and thanks for the cv's!!) I've been at it now for about 4 weeks and it's coming along ok. Hoping to have the lump back in next weekend all being well. Will post in banter what I'm doing with it.

Great to be here with some top lads!!

Gareth

hello gaz, good to see you on the forum....remember although you are building for someone else, roadtesting said machine is compulsory...y'know just to make sure it all works etc... not for personal pleasure or anything like that :D

Hi Gaz welcome.
Glad the CVs kept you going BTW did Sooty try that template in the Mk3 wheels?
Is it time for another:drink: do you think:)

Thanks for the great welcome fellas, total hours so far seems to be hovering around the 120 mark I think. Spent four full weekends on it so thats 80 plus a couple of hours after work some evenings and then the two weekends spent stripping the tubby of everything salvagable. My Senator is currently acting as a big box of MK2 bits!! Getting the engine in the correct postion and playing with the mount plates is what seemed to take the most time to get right but once thats done and the engine is back out you can really crack on.

The CV's helped massively JB, would not have been able to position the engine otherwise and I'd still be waiting for partsinabox to deliver some now. You maybe right, another meeting in the pub is a good idea but you might not be able to shut me up cos my heads stuffed full toyota idea's!!! Not heard from Sooty for nigh on two weeks now, he might have gone on holiday I think but whenever you have a free night we can meet for another chat. As for the wheel template I have no idea if he's tried it on any wheels.

Welcome mate. Do you reckon you'll build one for yourself too?

Welcome mate. Do you reckon you'll build one for yourself too?

Ta Shugsta, I like the idea of building one for myself but I need to sort out what I'm doing with the other things I have lurking in my garage first. I have one of Sooty's previous vehicles, an ex police Vauxhall Senator in the backyard along with a bent westfield chassis and a kawasaki ZZR11 motor and reverse gearbox and I'm still trying to decide whether to put the bike engine in the westy and use it purely for trackdays or use the senator and majorly alter the chassis to make the straight six fit and road car it. Vauxhall lump is approx 220bhp after a de-cat and capable of quite a bit more I dare say. The ZZR is about 130bhp and not much torque but weighs bugger all. At the moment 24V is the prefered option even if I have to practically build a new chassis around it because the engine is just a mental MoFo, whereas the ZZR is gonna be hopeless anywhere other than the track where it'll still get rained on by Radicals etc.

In two minds which engine I'd put in a 1.5, V6 would be less aggro once its running but more aggro getting the parts required. Could really do with something like a 2.2/2.4 four pot with a low pressure turbo setup that will combine the torque of the V6 with the compactness of the 3sgte. Is the 2.2 camry lump a straight swap like the 3sgte is? Need summat fairly rev happy that still has torque but is not physically too big and heavy, preferably of an all ally construction. The Toystar is mega but its auto and that takes the fun out of driving for me.

So to answer your question, maybe yeah!!
