Thread: Group buys.

    Group buys.

With people struggling and strapped for cash these days, me having no work booked in and, paint and bodywork being among the most costly things you can do to a car anyway, I've been wondering if perhaps a group buy might drum up some interest and give me something to do! As well as get the all important costs down!

I've had three of you here this week, was a real pleasure to meet you all, especially Si and his auto. But I'm afraid bodywork and paint costs what it costs, what else can I say :(

So, being paint and bodywork specialists its a bit difficult to organise any group buys, on what could I do them?

There was a lot of interest on another forum when I mentioned doing some sort of respray / bodywork deal. I don't quite know how it would work yet, or what prices might be but, if it is something a few of you would be interested in then I'll figure something out and we can get our cars looking their best for the summer to enjoy

Any input or other ideas let me know.

Theres a group buy on the Abflug arches thats coming to a close shortly, im sure a few guys will want them fitted and painted. would be a good kick off

Im sure if you spread the word you could coax some people to collaborate and get things done at the same time for a reasonable discount.

Sills:- theres always people screaming out to have their sills done, not sure if this is your forte but could do something with that.

just throwing a couple of ideas about.

I guess alot of people on forums (especially this one) are people who like to "have a go" at stuff, how about group buys related to your time and facilities, would 2 or 3 people who are interested in haveing a go at putting colour on (or what ever you call making stuff look fancy) under your expert watchful eye be willing to club together to get time?

Organised right then as one is preping one can be painting and one drying.....

Just a few thoughts, you can work out things like charging for consumables seperatly etc...

    Just an idea.

I can certainly fit and paint the arches for people if they get in touch. I don't like to hijack other peoples threads. Though I will offer to help

Re sills. I helped with some for another member a few weeks ago. Took three days even with all the parts pre fabricated from templates to do both. I still have the templates and could easily get a few sets made up I think.

I used to do a similar thing, I'd do small workshops on painting, re finishing and bodywork. However people would turn up, not join in, get thier car fixed for free and disappear never to be seen again.

Was great to meet you at the weekend Phil, if there was enough interest a group buy on Tom's kit might be a goer!

Shame your so far away from Sussex, I have some abflug arches already and looking at having them fitted and sprayed, plus obviously the exisiting arches would need to be cut back a little so larger alloys could be fitted... Not looked into the cost of having it all done as yet..

I'll be doing one once I get the first one finished. I still have the bumper to do.

I've dug out the files for the MK2 sill repair pieces. Should be simple enough to get some more sets made up and bundled into a kit for people.

    Looks something like this

I'd be happy to take part in anything similar Phill and get my hands dirty as well. Aside from a little rot on the arch mine is in good nick but the paintwork could do with a freshen up so this would be the ideal opportunity.

Pop over anytime and if its a nice day we'll see what we can do. Sounds like a good detail and polish would work.
